The City Dallas Fire Station No. 6 project included the new construction of a two-bay and a two-half bay, 13,287-square-foot fire station. that functions as a replacement for a fire station originally built in the early 1950s. Strategically located to serve the community between the downtown and fairground areas, this station houses six firefighters per shift and supports the operations of Engine 6 and Rescue 6. The station features drive-through bay access with bi-fold bay doors, a kitchen, dining room, living room, dormitories, restrooms, showers, and a fitness room. The project also features ambient lighting, high ceilings in the corridors, and large overhanging roofs in the apparatus bays and back porch. Dallas Fire Station No. 6 achieved LEED Platinum Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for the incorporation of solar power, geothermal HVAC systems, LED lighting, and sustainable irrigation systems. The fire station was constructed utilizing a structural foundation, steel frame, an exterior consisting of masonry block and cement panels, and a modified bitumen roofing system.
